Four Odors you need to eliminate from your Home!
As Human beings, we tend to be very adaptable. Our noses are especially adaptable to smells that linger around an area for a prolonged period of time. On a cognitive level, you become habituated to the smells and learn to ignore them. Here are some of the most common nose blindness culprits, and how to ban them from your home:
Here's an easy way to detect if your home smells like pets: Do you own them? If the answer is yes, then chances are your home smells like them.
The first step to cleaning pet odors is to bathe and groom your pets regularly. The next step is to VACUUM! Everytime you vacuum, start with a sprinkle of baking soda on the carpet. Lastly, if urine is an issue, you can use a black light to expose any dried stains. Make sure to use baking soda followed by a half water/ half vinegar solution to neutralize the odor!
2. BASEMENT MUSTINESS
Mustiness is caused by mildew and mold which fortunately eyes can detect. Make sure to do a careful inspection of your basement, from the darkest corner to the surface of every cardboard box or bookshelf! If you find gray or white splatches, it's probably mildew . If it's fuzzy, it's mold.
A solution one-part bleach to four parts water and some elbow grease will help you scrub away mildew. Although bleach can be used to clean mold too, it usually isnt necessary. A regular household cleaner can perform the trick
3. MATTRESS SMELLS
Eventually, all the dead skin and body oils that you shed while sleeping are going to build up producing an unpleasnet smell. In order to get rid of the smell, all you neew to do is sprinkle baking soda on the mattress, leaving it for an hour or more and vacuuming it up right after. You can add a couple drops of essential oil to the soda for a pleasant smell!
4. FADE FRIDGE AND FREEZER FUNK
Although you might not notice the odor creep, you may notice your ice starting to taste funny or see those food morsels starting to accumulate in the covers of your fridge shelves. If you see or taste something unpleasant, you can bet others can smell something unpleasant!
To get rid of odors from your freezer and fridge , unplug and empty them. Do a thorough cleaning with a mix of hot water and baking soda. Let it air out for 15 minutes. Try wiping it down with vinegar for extra odor elimination and leave doors open for a few days!
